1969 is the last year of the first-generation Camaros. Each of the 3 first-generation years has its own features and styling. If you know what to look for you can easily tell the difference between years. Flat top wheel openings, marker lights removed from the grille and new taillights are the 3 most noticed differences from the 67-68 models. Only the hood, deck lid and roof were carried over from the previous years. New front end, doors and quarter panels made the Camaro wider and gave it a sportier, more aggressive look.

1969 has the highest production numbers for the first-generation. Production being extended to November 1969 contributed to this. 243,085 total units built with 150,078 base models, 37,773 RS, 34,932 SS and 20,302 Z28s were produced. 206 of these were purpose built for SCCA Trans-Am Series racing, which the 1969 Camaro won the championship. Different packages could be mixed to create Models like RS/SS or RS/Z28. Almost all Camaros rolled off 1 of 2 U.S. assembly lines in Norwood, Oh or Van Nuys, Ca. There were 5 non-U.S. plants in countries that required local assembly or specific content.

For 1969 Chevrolet offered 12 different engine options starting at a 230 cu in straight 6. Multiple small block V8s and big blocks were offered including the ZL-1 all-Aluminum 427. Multiple transmissions were also available, 4-speed manuals were available with any engine option. A 2 speed Powerglide, or 3 speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 were available with straight 6 and small block V8 engines. A Turbo 400 transmission was the only automatic option for 396 & 427 Big Block engines. Only 69 Camaros were built using the ZL-1 engine for NHRA Super Stock racing.
